AUM Students win first place at the 6th International IBM Cloud Academy Conference

Students from the American University of the Middle East (AUM) participated in the 6th International IBM Cloud Academy Conference (ICA CON) 2018 in Japan, and won first place in the undergrad student competition. The competition was organized by IBM and hosted by the Institute of Statistical Mathematics in Tokyo.

The conference attracted professional experts and specialists in the software and ICT services sectors from various international institutions and companies, as well as about 300 participants from different universities around the world such as: University of North Carolina (UNC), University at Albany – SUNY, Atlanta State University, Duke University, University of New Mexico, San Jose State University, University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Arizona State University, East Carolina University, Clemson University, California State University, Georgia State University from USA, Institute of Statistical Mathematics (ISM), Japan Osaka University, Chuo University from Japan, Yulin Normal University, China Beijing Normal University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics from China, University of Florence – Italy, University of Coimbra – Portugal, University of Patras – Greece, University of Prince Edward Island – Canada, Jordan University of Science and Technology – Jordan, Staffordshire University – UK, Budapest University of Technology and Economics- Hungary.

Students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Farah Malallah, Ghadeer Seraj, Jamayel AlHajri, Alyaa AlOstad and Hawraa Ali, supervised by Dr. Moayad Aloqaily, came in first with a Cloud-based Smart Application to manage widespread social media data using machine learning algorithms.

For AUM students, the conference is a real opportunity to develop their skills in the computer engineering sector, especially that IBM is a leader in software and hardware development. The conference is also an opportunity for students to share ideas and expertise with experts and specialists in cloud computing, one of the most important technologies in the world.
