AUM Team wins the UAAK Football Championship

The American University of the Middle East (AUM) men’s football team won the Universities Athletics Association in Kuwait (UAAK) Football Championship following a victory over the Arab Open University (AOU) team during the final game. All championship games were held at AUM campus in Egaila, which boasts a FIFA certified football field – a one of its kind among private universities’ in Kuwait.

Since the beginning of this year’s league, AUM’s men football team has been successful in winning all games played without any loss while scoring 49 goals. AUM team members include students: Jassim Olwan, Abdulaziz Abdullah, Ahmad AlSaraf, Khaled Al Obeid, Ali Mahmoud, Abdulaziz Eissa, Hussain Al Ibrahim, Abdulrahman Al Harbi, Abdulaziz Merwi, Bader Tareq, Sadeq Al Sadeq, Mohammed Al Houli, Nawaf Al Salem, Fahed Maan, Abdulrahman Shammeri, Ibrahim Al Shreedah, Hamad Al Oufan, Fawaz Al Enezi, Yousef Al Dousari, Abdulaziz Al Qallaf, Abdullah Al Bannay, Abdulrahman Al Enezi, Haidar Ahmed, Fawaz Al faddhli, Yasser Abbas, Abdullah AlHaj Hassan, Ali Al Shatti, Ahmad Sheer, Mishari Al Obeid and Eissa AlEnezi.

During the first half, AOU team scored his first goal from a penalty kick. Shortly, AUM team struck back equalizing the score after offensive pressure. Both teams maintained a draw in the second half and during extra time, for AUM team to win on penalties in sudden death.

Following the game, team coach Liam OBrien said that AUM team has not lost any match during this UAAK Football Championship due to intensive training, teamwork and physical aptitudes of students who followed different strategies that helped them create offensive and defensive attacks.

He added: “Our team achieved a result which is the first of its kind in a UAAK Football League. We are proud of our students’ level. At AUM, we are always keen on training them to improve their technical skills, strategies and tactics, in addition to focusing on their physical fitness”.

In his turn, AUM team Captain Bader Tareq considered that this victory was the result of team efforts, intensive trainings and hard work. “It was a tough game. This season was the best for us because we didn’t lose any game, and no other team was ever able to achieve this result before in the UAAK”.

He concluded: “I want to congratulate AUM team players and I dedicate this win to our university management, staff and students”.
